Imām Ash-Shāfi’ī and as-Sam’ānī on sitting and debating with Ahlul-Bid’ah

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Abdullāh Ibn Imām Ahmad said: I heard my father (i.e. Ahmad Ibn Hanbal) say that Ash-Shāfi’ī said:

“That which we used to hear from that which has reached us from our Salaf amongst the People of Knowledge is that they would despise speaking to, and having discussions with the people of deviation. Indeed the affair [of Islām] is about submission and to finish at that which is in the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger, and not to go beyond that.”

(See Al-Ādāb ash-Shar’iyyah 1/199-200)

Abul-Mudhaffar as-Sam’ānī (rahimahullah) said:

“And know that when you think about the lives and biographies of the Sahābah and those who came after them from the righteous Salaf, you will find that they forbade from debating and arguing with Ahlul-Bid’ah with a severe forbiddance.”

(Al-Intisār li As.hābil-Hadīth p. 16)
