In the name of Allah, Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all creation, and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and all his Companions.

Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) never failed to make this supplication in the evening (after ‘Asr) and in the morning (after Fajr):

“O Allah, I ask You for security and wellbeing in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and security/wellbeing in my religion and my worldly affairs, in my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and keep me safe from the things which I fear. O Allah, guard me, in front of me, behind me, on my right hand, on my left. and from above me. I seek in Your Greatness from receiving unexpected harm from beneath me.” Abu Dawud said that Wakee’ said: “Beneath refers to being swallowed by the earth.” (Abu Dawūd, no. 5074 and declared saheeh by Al-Albāni)

Ash-Shaikh Al-‘Allāmah Abul-Hasan ‘Ubaydullāh Al-Mubārakfūri (died 1414 AH / 1993CE rahimahullāh) stated in his tremendous work which he started compiling in 1948CE, entitled: Mar’āt Al-Mafātīh Sharh Mishkāt Al-Masābīh (vol. 8 p. 139):

“O Allah, I ask You for security/wellbeing…” This means safety from the corruption in one’s Religion and from the hardships of the world––and it has been said: It is asking for safety from diseases and trials––and it has been said: It is to ask Allah not to be tried with them, to be given patience when they occur and to be pleased with Allah’s decrees when they befall. It is said in the Arabic dictionary (Al-Qāmūs) that Al-‘Āfiyah is the protection of Allah of the servant―and Allah, the Most High, keeps him safe from hated things–– عفاء ومعافاة وعافية ––i.e. that Allāh bestows upon him wellbeing and safety from sickness and trials such as restoring him to health.

“O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness…” Meaning that he asks Allah to wipe away his sins and to pardon them. “And [I ask] for security/wellbeing” i.e. Safety from defects, flaws and blemishes. “For security/wellbeing in my in my religion and my worldly affairs,” meaning in the affairs related to both of these (Religion and world).”

Al-‘Allāmah Rabee’ bin Hādi al-Madkhali (hafidhahullāh) and his friendship with Ash-Shaikh Al-‘Allāmah Abul-Hasan ‘Ubaydullāh Ar-Rahmāni Al-Mubārakfūri (rahimahullāh)

Shaikh Abul-Hasan ‘Ubaidullāh Ar-Rahmāni himself was a student of the Imām and Muhaddith, Ash-Shaikh Abul-‘Alā Muhammad bin Abdur-Rahmān Al-Mubārakfūri (d. 1353AH / 1934CE, rahimahullāh), the author of the explanation of Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Tuhfatul-Ahwadhi bi Sharhi Jāmi’ At-Timidhi in 11 volumes―and who helped him complete the final two volumes of this amazing work after he went blind. And Ash-Shaikh Abul-‘Alā Muhammad bin Abdur-Rahmān Al-Mubārakfūri gave him ijāzah (permission) to narrate from him the books and compilations of Hadeeth with the chains of narration leading back to compilers of those great books such as Bukhāri, Muslim, At-Tirmidhi, etc.

Shaikh Rabee’ (hafidhahullāh) said: “I knew Shaikh ‘Ubaidullah very well―he would visit Al-Jāmi’ah As-Salafiyyah (in Banāras, India ) for the main purpose of meeting with Shaikh Sālih bin Husayn Al-Irāqi and myself when we were sent there from the Islamic University (Madinah). He would visit us at the university and in our residence―and we knew him for his noble manners, humbleness and humility for which there is no comparison.

And there proceeded between us knowledge-based discussions that would lead to debates, and we found him to be very well versed, with immense knowledge and a powerful memory when it came to the issues we were discussing―and this only increased us in love and esteem for him while at the same time causing us to adopt those same manners. I visited him in his hometown of Mubārakfūr (or Mubarakpur) and found from him an excellent welcoming and much joy at my arrival. Then he permitted me to take ijāzah from him for all that he had read and heard from the sourcebooks of the Sunnah and other than them―may Allah shower him with vast mercy.” (See Majmū’ Kutub a Rasā’il wa Fatāwa of the Shaikh, the ‘Allāmah Rabee’ al-Madkhali, 3/376)

The Text of Tazkiyyah and Ijāzah of Ash-Shaikh Al-‘Allāmah Abul-Hasan ‘Ubaydullāh Ar-Rahmāni Al-Mubārakfūri for Al-‘Allāmah Rabee’ bin Hādi al-Madkhali

Dated: 9th of Dhul-Qa’dah in the year 1401AH.

“And to proceed: Says the servant in need of Allah, Abul-Hasan ‘Ubaidullah Ar-Rahmānee, As-Salafi, Al-Athari, Al-Mubārakfūri ibn Al-‘Allāmah Ash-Sheikh Abdus-Salām Al-Mubārakfūri the author of Seeratul-Bukhāri: Indeed our brother with Allah, the noble scholar, Ash-Sheikh Rabee’ ibn Hādi ibn Umayr Al-Madkhali from the village of Al-Jarādiyah on the outskirts of Sāmitah in the southern region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a teacher in the college of Hadeeth at the Islamic University in Madinah, requested from me Ijāzah (permission) for the narrating of Hadeeth from me, and his isnād (chain of narration) reaches the isnād of the Imāms of Hadeeth from the authors of As-Sihāh (Bukhāri and Muslim) and other than them―and he wrote to me that he studied firstly in Al-Madrasah As-Salafiyyah in Sāmitah, then in Al-Mahad Al-‘Ilmee there, then in the Islamic University of Madinah. He graduated from it receiving the university’s degree in the year 1385 AH., then in the year 1396 AH, he received the masters’ degree, then his doctorate in the year 1400 AH from the University of Al-Malik Abdul-‘Azeez in Jeddah. He mentioned to me also that he heard from Al-‘Allāmah Ash-Sheikh Ibn Bāz (may Allah preserve him) in the Prophet’s Masjid much of Saheeh al-Bukhāri and Muslim and part of Jāmi’ at-Tirmidhee―and he was in the constant company of Al-‘Allāmah, Ash-Sheikh, Nāsirud-Deen Al-Albāni and that he benefitted also from Ash-Sheikh Hammād ibn Muhammad Al-Ansāri and other than him from the major scholars. And he was sent by the Islamic University of Al-Madinah to Al-Jāmi’ah As-Salafiyyah in Banāras, India to teach after graduating from the Islamic University―before he received his masters and doctorate degrees. And whenever I went to Al-Jāmiah As-Salafiyyah during his stay there he would sit with me and discuss knowledge-based issues, and he traveled also to the town of Mubārakūr many times and met me in my home. I found him the possessor of abundant knowledge, great virtue, a possessor of sound understanding and an upright character, upon the way of the Salaf As-Sālih (may Allah be pleased with them) in belief and action, following the Book [of Allah] and the Sunnah, aiding them and defending them―harsh upon the people of innovation and desires, refuting the blind followers with whom the greater part of their efforts in the recital of Hadeeth is only to seek Hadeeth which agree with the Madhab of their Imām―so may Allah bless him in his knowledge, and bless the Muslims by Allah giving him a long life.” (Slightly edited from the original translation by Abul-Hasan Mālik Al-Akhdar, may Allah preserve him)

Shaikh Rabee’ also has an ijāzah through the scholar of Sind (Pakistan), Al-Imām Badee’ ad-Deen Ar-Rāshidi As-Sindi (d. 1416AH, rahimahullāh).
