The following are chapters from Shaikhul-Islām Abu Ismā’īl Al-Harawī’s (rahimahullāh, b.396 – d.481H): “The Book Of Forty Narrations In The Evidences Of Tawhīd”

This compilation is an amazing series of narrations in the establishment of the Tawhīd of Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, especially in the arena of the Names and Attributes that has left the Jahmiyyah and their offspring such as the Ashā’irah and Māturīdīs dumbstruck just as Allāh has said:

وَقُلْ جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا

“And say: ‘The Truth has come and falsehood has been vanquished. Surely! Falsehood is ever bound to be wiped out.’” (Al-Israa 17:81)

Chapter 8: A Clarification that Allāh, the Blessed, Most High, and Sanctified is an “[Existing] Thing” (شَيء)

Abu Isma’īl Al-Harawī (481H) with his chain of narration to Asmā’ bint Abī Bakr (radiyallāhu ’anhā): I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying,

ما من شَىْء أَغْيَرُ مِنَ اللَّهِ عز وجل

“There is not a thing (شَيء shay’) having a greater sense of protective honour than Allāh.”

(Bukhārī, no. 5222; Muslim 36; – see the attached scan for the Arabic text and complete referencing by Shaikh Alī Nāsir Al-Faqīhī, hafidhahullāh)

Chapter 9: A Clarification that Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic is a “Being” (شَخْص shakhs)

Abu Ismāīl Al-Harawī (481H) with his chain of narration to Al-Mughīrah (radiyallāhu anhu) who said: Sad bin ‘Ubādah said,

“If I saw a man with my wife, I would strike him with the blade of my sword.”

This news reached Allāh’s Messenger (ﷺ) who then said,

“You people are astonished at Sa’d’s jealousy. By Allah, I have more honourable jealousy than he, and Allah has more honourable jealousy than I, and because of Allah’s honourable jealousy, He has made unlawful shameful deeds and sins done in open and in secret. And there is not a being (شَخْصَ shakhs) who is more honourably jealous than Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, nor a being who loves to give an excuse more than Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic – and for this reason He sent the Messengers as bringers of glad tidings and warners. And there is not a being who loves praise more than Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic.”

(Reported by Bukhārī, 7416; Muslim, 17; Ad-Dārimī, 2233 – see the attached scan for the Arabic text and complete referencing by Shaikh Alee Nāsir Al-Faqīhī, hafidhahullāh)

Chapter 10: Affirmation of the “Self” (نفس) for Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic.

Abu Ismāīl Al-Harawī (481H) with his chain of narration to Ibn Abbās (radiyallāhu ’anhu) that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said,

“Subhānallāh wabi hamdihi* as much as the number of His creation, and as much as the ink of His words, and as much as that which pleases His Self (نفس nafs).”

(* Glorified be Allāh, the Most Perfect, free from imperfections and for Him is all praise)

(Reported by Muslim, 79; Ibn Mājah, 3808; At-Tirmidhī, 3626; and An-Nasā’ī – see the attached scan for the Arabic text and complete referencing by Shaikh `Alī Nāsir Al-Faqīhī, hafidhahullāh)

Note:

It is reported by Ibn Mājah (3808):

From Ibn ‘Abbās from Juwairiyah who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed by her after she had prayed the morning prayer – and she was making the dhikr (remembrances) of Allāh. He came back after the sun had risen [or at midday] – and she was still making dhikr. So he said:

“I have said four words three times, since I left you – and they are greater and weightier than what you have said. They are:

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ: Glorified is Allah the Most Perfect, as much as the number of His creation;

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رِضَا نَفْسِهِ: Glorified is Allah the Most Perfect, as much as pleases Himself;

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ زِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ: Glorified is Allah the Most Perfect, as much as the weight of His Throne;

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ: Glorified is Allah the Most Perfect, as much as the ink of His Words.”

Shaikh Al-Albāni declared it ‘sahīh’.
